In comparison to other products the WIPP (Hydrobaffle) barriers proved to be the most user friendly product on display, taking less time and man power to deploy. Max received many positive comments about the barriers and looks forward to a bright future. For more information see Max's website: http://www.hydrobaffle.com/Details.html
BRADENTON, Florida [NMT] -- The 2005 Manatee County Hurricane Preparedness and Safety Expo at the DeSoto Square Mall in Bradenton on Saturday was a huge success, according to the Expo's organizer, Rob Day, Manatee County Emergency Management Hazard Mitigation Specialist.
The event drew hundreds of people from the Suncoast and featured ABC 7 Meteorologists John Scalzi and Bob Harrigan, from Sarasota television station WWSB, along with exhibits from local fire departments and the law enforcement. John Scalzi spoke about hurricanes and their relation to structural damage. Scalzi also told the crowd how to prevent damage through suggested modification of residential and commercial structures.
One of the more interesting features at the Hurricane Expo was the introduction to those attending the Manatee County Expo of a new product made by Hydrological Solutions, Inc. -- a water-inflated flood protection product (WIPP™) intended to be a substitute for sand bags to prevent property from rising flood waters. NewsManatee found this product to be extremely useful to our area's flood-prone rivers and properties.
The WIPP™ is made from vinyl and system heights range from 1 to 8 feet. It is designed for multiple installations and many years of service can be had if used the stored properly, the company's literature said. It can be permanently repaired if damaged. There are two types of WIPP™:One is recommended for industrial and heavy commercial use and the other is recommended for light commercial or residential use. The residential type is made to be from 1 to 3 feet high.
The manufacturer, Hydrological Solutions, Inc., first opened its doors in 1996 to provide high quality water-inflated dams. They supply their patented water-inflatable systems throughout the United States and internationally. All of their dams are made in the USA in either their Texas or Michigan facilities. They are committed to providing the highest quality water-inflatable flood protection systems, according to company representative Kathy Sullivan, who was demonstrating the product at the Hurricane Expo on Saturday.
The WIPP™ can also be used on construction sites and pipe-laying installations to hold back water and sludge and at contamination scenes to contain various hazardous materials.

Although Michigan may not be at risk for hurricanes and the extensive damage they cause, it’s still at risk for flooding and major rain. On average, Michigan gets one major flood every 100 years. These floods put millions of dollars of property at risk. A campus like Michigan State is especially at risk because of the amount of technological equipment and sensitive material it houses.
